Congratulations to Ray Neistat for earning All American recognition!

Ray Neistat All American


Ray Neistat placed 3rd at Class L state diving championships with a school record 11 dive score of 497.70. Ray broke his own school records of 453.10 set a week earlier at the CCC champiopnship meet. 


 
Newington finishes 12th at Class L Champioships

Newington placed 12th at Class L championships with Sr Captain Elias Bitzarakis placing 13th in the 100 free (51.55) and 14th in the 200 free (1:53.68) . Sophmore Robert Nagy placed 11th in the 50 free (23.25) and 17th in the 100 free (51.19) Jr Michael Allo placed 11th in the 100 breast (1:04.17) and 18th in the 200 IM (2:08.11). Sr Captain Dorian Zawisza placed 28th in the 100 back (1:02.39) and 27th in the 200 IM (2:15.92). Freshman Maksym Ugrak placed 24th in the 100 fly (1:00.39) and 31st in the 200 IM (2:15.98). Sr Austin Matteson finished 29th in the 100 free (54.47) and 30th in the 50 free (24.60)


 
Newington finishes 3rd at CCC Champioships

Newington had 23 lifetime or season best times at the CCC North White championships at Wethersfield HS. Diver Ray Neistat led the way with a first place finish in diving while setting a new 11 dive school record at 453.10 and a CCC North 6 dive record at 266.00. Newington swimmers  placed third in the Medley relay, improving their season best time by .9 seconds. Michael Allo had two 3rd place finishes in the 200 IM and 100 breastroke. Robert Nagy finished 4th and 5th in the 50 and 100 free posting times less than .2 seconds off the auto cuts for Class L States. Robert then made the best of his last chance in a last chance meet to grab the 100 free auto cut in the first leg of the 400 free relay with a time of 52.28.  Freshman Maksym Ugrak had a 3rd place finish in the 100 fly while breaking a minute at 59.49 and 5th in the 200 IM 2:16.90. Both times put Ugrak in excellent position to make states on those consideration times.   Elias Bitzarakis placed 5th in the 200 free. Dorian Zawisza had great swims in the 100 back (3rd place) and 200 IM (6th place). Both times put Dorian in very good position to make states on consideration. Austin Matteson swam lifetime bests for a 8th place finish in the 50 free and 9th place in the 100 free.

Newington tops East Catholic on senior night.

Newington defeated a small East Catholic squad on a night where 13 seniors competed in there last dual meet event. Several former coaches were on deck or in the crowd as the host Indians quickly fell behind after the 200 medley relay but captured the lead for good with seniors Elias Bitzarakis and Austin Matteson going 1-2 in the 200 free.  Michael Allo, Maksym Ugrak and senior Dorian Zawisza then swept the 200 IM in dominating fashion. Robert Nagy followed with a win in the 50 free. Senior diver Ray Neistat concluded his undefeated dual meet season with another amazing performance  on the one meter board.  After the senior night ceremony  senior Billy Ropes dropped 4.5 seconds in the 100 fly in capturing a second place finish. Elias Bitzarakis, Robert Nagy and fellow senior Ricky Garcia took 2, 3 and 4 in the 100 free. Michael Allo then made a somewhat rare appearance in the 500 free with a best time and 1st place finish. The outcome of the meet was already assured as Dorian Zawisza, Sean Abrams, Nick Goegal, Tyler Coleman, Jeremy Rippel and senior Joseph Montano rounded out the scoring in the 98-76 victory. Newington finished the season with a 5-4 overall and 3-2 conference record.

Wethersfield sinks Newington

A heavily favored Wethersfield team dominated Newington with the conference championship on the line. Newington swam well but was outmatched in most events. One bright spot was Ray Neistat setting a pool record in diving with a score of 325.25. Michael Allo picked up the only other victory in the 100 breaststroke.

Newington defeats Rocky Hill 

Newington had a strong showing against Rocky Hill to set up a showdown with Wethersfield with a share of the conference title on the line.  The Indians started out strong and cruised to a 97-84 victory. Elias Bitzarakis, Michael Allo, Ray Neistat, Jeremy Rippel,  Dorian Zawisza, Robert Nagy and Maksym Ugrak all had quality performances.

Newington swims past E.O. Smith

Newington bounced back with a workman like victory over E. O. Smith in Storrs. The Indians started out strong and never let up posting a 96-88 victory. Elias Bitzarakis and Michael Allo led the team with 2 individual victories and were members of 2 winning relay teams. Ray Neistat captured the diving event while Dorian Zawisza and Maksym Ugrak  also swam to a first place finish in their events. Robert Nagy picked 2 second place finishes in the 50 & 100 free events.

Newington falls to Avon in close meet

Newington went against Avon and tied the score late in the meet until Avon's depth was too much to hold off. There were more than a dozen lifetime best swims highlighted by Michael Allo improving his auto qualifying time in the 100 breast with a time of 1:05.94 and dropping 1.5 seconds in the 200 IM and just missing the auto time by .6 seconds. Max Ugrak fought through not feeling well to post a lifetime best in the 200 IM dropping 1.5 seconds. Captain Eli Bitzarakis dropped .9 seconds off his auto qualifying time in the 200 free Syed Asar swam an inspired 500 free and dropped 10 seconds off his time. Tyler Coleman, Robert Nagy, Sean Abrams, Ricky Garcia, Austin Matteson and Zach Saunders also posted lifetime bests as the team is seeing the benefits of a season of very hard work.

Newington swims past Hartford Public for conference  win!

Newington swam against Hartford Public to start the conference campaign and came away with a convincing 86-68 score.  There were many lifetime best times as Newington continues  to swim very fast while continuing a rigorous training schedule. Included in the parade of lifetime bests were Michael Allo dropping just under 3 seconds in the 200 free and just missing the state auto cut by .09 seconds. Ricky Garcia also swam a lifetime best in the same event and dropped an amazing 16+ seconds. Freshman Maksym Ugrak continued dropping big time with an improvement in the 200 IM ofjust under 2 seconds. Robert Nagy showed versatility by dropping 2 1/2 seconds in the 100 back. Jacob Mermelstein qualified for states in diving.

Dorian Zawisza makes his diving debut!

Dorian stepped up and led the Newington divers to a sweep over Berlin in the 1 meter diving competition. The senior captain placed first out of 4 divers. Earlier in the the meet he dropped 7 1/2 seconds for a lifetime best in the 200 IM.
Also having outstanding performances were Elias Bitzarakis in 200 free dropping .6 seconds for a lifetime best, Austin Matteson with lifetime bests in the 200 free dropping nearly 5 seconds and a 13 second drop in the 500 free, Max Ugrak had 2 life time bests in the 200 IM dropping 13 1/2 seconds and the 100 fly dropping 1 1/2 seconds. The lifetime bests continued with Billy Ropes dropping over 16 seconds in the 200 IM and nearly 3 seconds in the 100 free. Michael Allo also joined in  with a lifeetime best in the 500 free dropping over 11 seconds.
Sean Abrams also had a lifetime best dropping .5 seconds in the 100 back.
Overall the team showed a high energy level with a never give up attitude.

Raymond Neistat breaks 6 dive record!!!

We swam a very competitive meet against Farmington but came up short 95-87. We had several season best times a few lifetime bests. The highlight of the meet was Raymond Neistat breaking his team and pool records with a score of 329.95. We had an exceptional meet overall.
